In conjunction with our joint venture partners, John Holland and GHD, Aquatec Maxcon has been selected to participate in the trial phase of the augmentation project at the Western Treatment Plant using the world-leading Nereda® technology. Three consortia have been shortlisted by Melbourne Water for the trial phase. The objective of this phase of the project is to select a preferred treatment technology for a plant upgrade of 140 milliong litres a day. Three consortia have been shortlisted by Melbourne Water for the trial phase.
Nereda® technology, developed by Dutch company Royal HaskoningDHV in cooperation with Delft University of Technology, the Foundation for Applied Water Research STOWA and Dutch water boards will be used to construct a pilot plant at the trial site to operate for a period of 12-18months.
Nereda® process has lower energy consumption needs when compared to conventional wastewater treatment plant.
Other benefits include lower operating costs with a small physical footprint making it a cost effective option. There are plants in operation and under construction in the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, South Africa, Brazil, the UK, Ireland, Switzerland and the recently awarded at Kingaroy WWTP, in Australia.
