01 November 2017. The Yarra Valley Water (Aquatec Maxcon delivered) Waste to Energy plant won the Banksia Foundation National Sustainability Award for ‘Leadership in the Circular Economy’.
The Banksia foundation promotes sustainability excellence and the awards are regarded as the most prestigious sustainability awards in Australia.
Aquatec Maxcon partnered with Yarra Valley Water to develop, design and construct the multi award winning plant which was purpose built to convert organic waste, such as commercial food waste previously destined for landfill, into renewable energy. This occurs via the production of methane gas (biogas) which powers generators to produce enough electricity to run the facility and the nearby Aurora Sewage Treatment Plant, with surplus energy exported to the electricity grid.
Damien Bassett, Manager Waste to Energy Services, Yarra Valley Water, thanked Aquatec Maxcon for delivering a truly world class facility and the Yarra Valley Water board for their vision and willingness to accept the challenge of ‘doing more good’.
Aquatec Maxcon congratulates Yarra Valley Water on this award and the continuing success of the Waste to Energy Facility which is dedicated to promoting a more sustainable Australia.
